Questions & Answers

Do I need a licence to own a Desert Lynx?

No, my Desert Lynx are sold with domestic cat papers. How ever a few states do not recognize them as a domestic cat so check with your area requirements. The FDA states that any offspring of a wild animal bred with a domestic ( f-1) will be deemed a domestic animal. Any of the offspring of that breeding (f-2)to another domestic is also considered a domestic.

What do they eat?

They eat regular cat food, no special diet is needed for the Desert Lynx. I feed them grain free organic food.

Do they require special shots?

No, they take all the same vaccinations as any other domestic cat. The only thing to note with this breed is that the use of Ketamin ( animal tranquilizer) can not be used on a Desert Lynx as it causes brain damage and seizures in them.

Can I let my cat out to run free?

No. They can be taught to walk on a harness with you and enjoy a walk with you. An outside cat will usually only live for 5 to 7 years while an indoor cat can live well into their teens and beyond. Out door cat’s are targets for car’s, loose dog’s, coyote, cougar, bears, disease, and humans that put out poison for them or steel them.

I want to breed, what should I know?

I do not sell to breeders. This is a very affectionate, people loving cat and do not do well living in cages. They become very bonded to their people. Also this breed, both the male and the female will spray to attract the opposite sex. They will be spayed or neutered. If you allow them to reach sexual maturity then the spay or neuter may not stop them from the spraying habit. Thus they may no longer make a good house pet.

What is the difference between the males and females?

Size. Males are larger in most cases. Occasionally the female can also get quite large too.

Do they get along with other cat’s and animals?

Yes, they get along with all other pets. Dog’s, skunks, birds, any pet that is in your home will be just part of it’s family. Although they get along with all other animals they do have a preference for their own kind.

Is it better to get two or just one?

I recommend 2 kittens especially if they are the only pets in the home. They really do like having a friend and they are fun to watch together. If you have no other animals and are gone a lot during the day or evening then a friend, brother or sister playmate would be a very good idea. They can get lonely.
